One of my friends told me about this awesome band called The Hood Internet. I listened to some of their songs and loved them. Since they release their songs for free, I decided that they needed some torrents. I contacted the band, and they expressed interest, so last night I made the torrents, and now they are on thepiratebay.org. I have started seeding them on my slow home internet connection, but hopefully tonight I will get them seeding on several more connections.
I hope that this makes downloading their awesome music easier for everyone. If anyone wants, I can also put up torrents for all of the singles on their site.
You can download the torrents from my site:
Or you can download them from TPB:
So I just read/watched the link on the recent solar tsunami and that is some really crazy stuff. According to my envelope calculation, the article says that the tsunami covered 1000000km in half an hour.
I am having ridiculous trouble converting km/hr to ft/sec. According to google calculator, it would be 1822688.83ft/sec. That sounds much more reasonable. My original number of 23622047244000ft/sec was a bit off. (Thanks Thomas) ![]()
That tsunami was traveling pretty darn fast. So, I believe that would be pronounced 1 million 822 thousand 688.83 feet per second. Compared to the fastest tsunami on earth that moves about 911ft/sec I would say that things are a bit faster on the sun.
I decided to plant a some avocado trees today. While eating dinner, I was inspired to attempt to grow the discarded avocado pits. I planted the avocados with the help of wikihow and now hopefully In several weeks I will have real avocado trees. Then maybe in a few years I can have some fresh avocados. . .
I also decided to make a time lapse video of the avacado trees growing. I set up my camera on a tripod and every day I am going to take several pictures of the plants. Hopefully I will be able to eventually compile the pictures into a really cool video.
Tagged Botany, PicturesI just set up a full source gentoo mirror at mirror.silliam.com. I don’t know if gentoo would want my mirror added to their official pool since it is on shared hosting, so I haven’t submitted a bug report yet. However, I am going to use my mirror, and anyone else is free to use it. I have the bandwidth capped at 5TB, which works out to be about 15Mbit, I think. Anyways, my mirror syncs every four hours, starting at midnight PST using this command:
rsync --avHS --delete-excluded ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles /home/silliam/mirror.silliam.com/gentoo/
It then emails me the results of the command, hence the verbose flag (I like to see what files changed).
I am happy to mirror files for anybody, I have much more bandwidth than I could ever use. One of these days, I am going to build a nice python or php framework for mirroring files.
Tagged Linux, TechI finally finished version 1.0 of my binary clock. All of the info about it, including a schematic and pictures, is on the bClock page. I really like it, and I want to get some kits and have a few boards etched. If I get enough feedback (maybe 5 people interested) then I will make the order. Just leave a comment if you’re interested! Thanks!
Tagged Electronics, TechI was recently motivated to make myself a really cool looking desktop background. My laptop has a 1280×800 display, so the images are in that resolution. If you want me to make a different resolution, just write a comment and I will be happy to oblige. One of these days I am going to write a short how-to complete with screenshots! The last one is my current background, and probably my favorite.
